The year is 2009. Nineteen-year-old Jackson Meyer is a normal guy… he’s in college, has a girlfriend… and he can travel back through time. But it’s not like the movies – nothing changes in the present after his jumps, there’s no space-time continuum issues or broken flux capacitors – it’s just harmless fun.
That is… until the day strangers burst in on Jackson and his girlfriend, Holly, and during a struggle with Jackson, Holly is fatally shot. In his panic, Jackson jumps back two years to 2007, but this is not like his previous time jumps. Now he’s stuck in 2007 and can’t get back to the future.
Desperate to somehow return to 2009 to save Holly but unable to return to his rightful year, Jackson settles into 2007 and learns what he can about his abilities.
But it’s not long before the people who shot Holly in 2009 come looking for Jackson in the past, and these “Enemies of Time” will stop at nothing to recruit this powerful young time-traveler. Recruit… or kill him.
Piecing together the clues about his father, the Enemies of Time, and himself, Jackson must decide how far he’s willing to go to save Holly… and possibly the entire world.
I haven't been one for time traveling & all but Julie Cross has changed my mind. I'm in love with Tempest (well Jackson really, lol)! It's nothing super crazy, it's beautifully written & paced. It keeps you on edge waiting to see what the next page brings & the love in this book is just breathtaking!
Tempest has action, love, loss, remorse, regret, eacceptance, trust, mystery...a little bit of everything.
I was sucked in from the beginning. Jackson is 19 yrs old, in college, has a wonderful girlfriend, Holly. He is smart, funny, cocky (when he wants to be), courageous, & utterly faithful...who can time travel. And, he's close with Holly's best friend, Adam. What more could a girl want?!
Jackson has never told anyone about his ability to time travel, or jump (however you want to call it), but he reveals it to Adam, seeing that Adam is the super smart science guy. They are trying to figure out how things work. If anything could be changed, how much time passes from when your in one place & the other, but mainly just doing it for fun. And leaving Holly completely in the dark about it.
Everything was fine until all hell broke loose in Holly's dorm room. Jackson panicked & jumped...unfortunately he ended up in 2007, the farthest back he's ever gone. And now he's stuck.
He replays what happens over & over & tries so many times to get back to 2009 & do something, anything to help Holly but each attempt fails. He finds out things out about his family & more about his abilities. He's very careful as who to trust with all the new information that he has now found. All he knows is that he has to get back to 2009 & protect Holly. The only person that he knows he can fully, undoubtedly trust, is Adam. But problem is they didn't know each other yet.
So much has happened to Jackson in this short, or long, time period depending on how you're looking at it. And now, not long after being in 2007 the EOT (Enemies of Time) come looking for Jackson again & will stop at nothing to recruit him. He has learned from all the jumps that he has made, little bits & pieces of information & he is starting to piece it all together.
Both sides want him for his abilities, but which side is willing to take it as far as 'recruit or kill'? What happens if Jackson doesn't want any part of this? What happens to Holly? The biggest question of all is what will happen to the world?
I will not lie, I cried the last bit of Tempest! You are brought into this world & you feel the emotions that the characters do. You feel the regret for some of the actions that Jackson has made & tries to make them right, even though he knows that it won't change the future. He has a heart of gold! He kept his composure at times knowing that the freaking out part needed to come later. I absolutely cannot wait for the rest of the series to come out.

***I received this for an honest review from St. Martin***

I love Time Traveling books! They always grab my attention!! Loved this review! I'm excited to see the movie.
ReplyDeleteSounds great. I haven't read many time traveling books but I've liked the ones I have. And I love any book that makes me cry. Having a 19 year old as a protag is something different. I suppose it works well b/c he goes back in time.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds pretty good I've been curious about it. Great review!
