Review - Obsidian by Jennifer Armentrout

Author - Jennifer Armentrout
Publisher - Entangled
Release Date - May 15th, 2012, 299 Pages (original print Novemeber 29th, 2011)
Starting over sucks. When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I'd pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring.... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.And then he opened his mouth.Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something...unexpected happens. The hot alien living next door marks me.You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon's touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades. If I don't kill him first, that is.
Now I know that this has been out for a while however, this is the 2nd print and with the new cover so in honor of this day for Obsidian I'm re-posting my review...and yes I still heart it to pieces =)

Oh. My. God!!! I have been anticipating reading this for so long & Jennifer did not disappoint, yet again. I was grabbed by this & never put it down (well except for doing the normal life events like sleeping, eating, getting a job…). There are so many things that I loved about this book. What really gets me when I am reading is the characters. I have to know about them, to be able to relate to them & my-oh-my did I relate with Katy on more than one thing. Of course the plot is also extremely important, and I haven’t read anything like Obsidian! I haven’t read much of Aliens really but I love Jennifer's take on things.

Katy is such a strong character. I heart her! First she is a book blogger, how freaking awesome is that?! I can relate to her with what she has gone through stemming the move that she was forced to make. She has so much compassion for her friends and her mother. She is so sweet but she will not hold back if she is put into a situation where she needs to stand up for herself or others that she cares for. Katy is all around great…until Daemon comes around, he brings out the uh spark in her. She definitely has a mouth on her when she’s talking to Daemon (but only because he asked for it)! Daemon pushes her limits oh so many times in oh so many ways but she doesn’t back down or change her mind, she will not let him rule her life. I loved about Katy is that even though she was faced with A LOT of information and went through some traumatic experiences, she still kept up with her life & her blog. The absolute best thing I loved from her was the response she gave when she found out about Daemon & Dee. She didn’t just accept it and go on with life. She questioned it and even after proof, it still took her a while to fully get her head wrapped around it.

Daemon is the super-hot-super-arrogant rock-my-socks-off alien neighbor. Everyone loves the bad boys right?! Well he is definitely in the top 5, if not #1 in that department. He brings out the sassy side of Katy (and me) that’s for sure. Daemon will get you from the beginning and not let you go. He’s tall, tan, muscled, mysterious & has those beautiful green eyes you could stare into for days. He cares so much about his sister Dee, and his kind, but they have to keep their kind a secret from humans. That is something he is willing to do whatever he has to to keep it that way but there is just something about Katy that draws him near. Daemon has a mouth on him, you never know what’s going to come out. It could be the sweetest thing you’ve ever heard or the usual smart elic he is. You’ll want to slap him upside the back of his head, kick him in the shin, and even scream at him sometimes but you can’t help but to love him. He can be very cold but he's always there with Katy truly needs him *awww*.

I loved the mystery behind Daemon, Dee and their kind in general and loved to find out more about them as the book progressed. Same goes for the bad guys, the Arum but I would still love to learn more about both sides. The love interest in this book drove me absolutely crazy, hot then cold, hot then cold, and repeat!!! You can sense that Daemon likes Katy WAY more than he’s letting on, and Katy doesn’t want to admit to Daemon that she is at least attracted to him but we all know (including Katy) that’s a lie. There was some great action & romantic scenes, the pages were turning so fast. I was just completely sucked into what was going on and yearning to find out what was going to happen next. I have to admit there was one scene in here that made me a little teary eyed but you’ll have to read it to see what I mean. I was never expecting the next thing to happen which is so good to keep me as a reader on the edge of my seat. The side characters in this novel are also well written and I'm hoping to learn more about them as the series progresses.

I’m still in awe over Obsidian and I absolutely cannot wait for the 2nd in this series…I have to have more!!! If you haven’t read any of Jennifer’s work…what are you waiting for?!? She is like superwoman/author but I have yet to read anything by her that wasn’t 5 stars! This will definitely be one of the books that you will want to add to your TBR list because it’s just amazingly awesome!

  1. OMg did you just read this now!? EEEP. Wasn't it awesome and hot? Daemon is such a jackass but it's hilarious at the same time. I really liked Katie too and the fact that she's a blogger is pretty neat! Great review, doll!
